Wilmington, VT — Deerfield Valley Fiber (DVFiber), a publicly owned fiber-optic Communication Utility District (CUD) serving Southern Vermont, today announced its partnership with Village of Jacksonville Electric Company (Jacksonville Electric) to support the deployment of a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system designed to enhance grid reliability, operational efficiency, and customer service across the community.
Through this collaboration, DVFiber will provide secure, high-capacity communications infrastructure to enable real-time data transmission between smart meters and utility Data Concentrator Units (DCUs). The fiber network will help support faster outage detection, improved system monitoring, and expanded opportunities for future smart-grid technologies.

The AMI project will enable Jacksonville Electric to provide customers with more timely usage information, improved billing accuracy, and enhanced tools for managing energy consumption. The fiber-enabled communications backbone is expected to improve cybersecurity, increase data reliability, and reduce operational costs over time.

Project implementation is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with phased deployment across Jacksonville Electric’s 768 customers. Customers will receive advance notice prior to any meter installations or service-related work.
