DVFiber Announces Massive Free Network Upgrade, More Than Tripling Internet Speeds for Many Customers

While corporate providers rely on temporary promotional traps, Vermont’s community-owned fiber network delivers permanent, gigabit-level speed increases at no extra cost.

Wilmington, VT — Deerfield Valley Fiber (DVFiber), a publicly owned fiber-optic Communication Union District (CUD) serving Southern Vermont, today announced a major network upgrade that will drastically increase internet speeds for customers across its service area—at absolutely no additional cost. The initiative reflects DVFiber’s ongoing commitment to investing in local infrastructure and ensuring future-ready connectivity for the region’s households, businesses, and institutions.

Under the new “Speed Gift” initiative, existing customers will see their bandwidth skyrocket while their monthly bills remain exactly the same. Base-tier customers will see speeds jump from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps, while mid-tier customers will be upgraded from 300 Mbps to blazing-fast 1 Gig (1,000 Mbps) speeds. Top-tier customers will also receive a free upgrade to multi-gigabit (2 Gig) service.

This upgrade expands network capacity while strictly maintaining the honest, flat-rate pricing that defines DVFiber’s community-owned model.

“We built DVFiber so our neighbors wouldn’t have to choose between high-speed internet and honest pricing,” said Patrick Moreland, Executive Director of DVFiber. “These free, massive network upgrades are the dividend of local ownership. It proves that paying your DVFiber bill isn’t just paying a utility—it’s a direct investment in reliable, ever-improving infrastructure for our entire region.”

Unlike many providers that rely on short-term promotional pricing, hidden fees, or multi-year “staircase” rate hikes, DVFiber reinvests network revenue into long-term improvements that strengthen connectivity across Southern Vermont. For DVFiber customers, the monthly cost of service guarantees reliable service, continuous technological improvements, and permanent pricing transparency.

Implementation of the speed upgrades will begin the week of April 13, with customers expected to experience their new speeds seamlessly as the improvements are rolled out across the network.
